Leszno - Częstochowa

Shameful defeat

Unia Leszno lost the first game of the season on its own track. Unexpectedly, the runners in the Polish championship lost with Włókniarz Częstochowa 42:48 even though the rival lacked its champion, the Dane Nicki Pedersen.

The Leszno team disappointed their fans. Despite the fact that Adam Shields and Damian Baliński were injured and therefore absent, the other racers should have beat the „Lions” of Częstochowa. The beginning of the race went good as the hosts were leading 12:6 after the third race. It actually looked like they were going to beat their guests easily.

But the next two races proved everybody wrong as the white-and-green racers won, gaining 10 points. The following two races were similar and the Częstochowa team took the leadership 24:18. Half-race belonged to the hosts as they got themselves together and won the 8th and the 9th race.

The team leaders looked a pit pale, confronted with the young team who were not to give up. Czesław Czernicki, the coach, had to save the results of the game with the tactics reserve.

He called out Krzysztof Kasprzak, who then went ahead Lee Richardson lost to Hancock in the 13th race. In the following race, he and Hampel scored well. Włókniarz was leading 43:41 when Kasprzak - Hancock - Adams – Gapiński got ready for the last race. The Częstochowa team won the start and won.

Włókniarz beat Unia 48:42 and scored the whole point set when the first race in Częstochowa resulted with a draw.

- ‘It’s difficult to explain the team performance today. What we lacked was the leader’s points, as I apprecuiate the efforts of the youngsters. They scored the total of 16 pointssaid Czesław Czernicki, the coach of Unia Leszno.
